Mars Landing Site for 2020 Mission Examined

This photograph (ESP_036117_2070) was taken by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) HiRISE Camera on 10 April 2014.

NASA describes this photograph as “Candidate Landing Site for 2020 Mission.”

I found many interesting natural geological features and several unnatural looking anomalies such as walls, mounds, monuments, holes and what appear to be mining sites.

Why is NASA considering this as a potential landing site? There are rocks, mounds and other obstacles all over and nothing like previous landing sites, i.e. NASA have always landed their rovers and other craft on flat terrain to prevent damage and potential failure.
