The photograph analyzed here (ESP_044228_1440) was acquired by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on 02 January 2016 and is described as ‘Hellas Planitia.’
Featured here is a Martian surface anomaly that looks like ‘ruins of a city.’ Seen are what look like foundations or walls, very similar to the Puebloan ruins at Chaco Canyon on Earth.
Typically when a lake dries up it the lake bed dries out and leaves small, irregular blocks/slabs. This surface anomaly on Mars is huge, much larger than the small irregular blocks/slabs found in a dried out lake bed here on Earth. There is also uniformity in the width of the foundations or walls and they are arranged in geometric patterns, some identical in shape and size.
