The photographs analyzed here were taken by the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI), located on the turret at the end of the rover’s robotic arm, on September 25, 2022, Sol 3603 of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, at 07:49:44 UTC and September 25, 2022, Sol 3603 of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, at 11:50:37 UTC respectively.
Seen in these two photographs are dozens of spherical objects that appear to be embedded or attached to the side of a bolder. The area examined appears to have been brushed/polished by the rover but the spherical object haven’t moved and indeed look polished as well.
These spherical objects don’t look like the typical pebbles photographed by the rovers in the past in that they are not lying on the surface but seem to be embedded or attached to the side of a bolder. I estimate these spherical objects to be about 1 cm in diameter.
I also feature a few more anomalies that look like shells I covered in the past.
As always, until we get to see these anomalies up close and personal, I can only speculate as to what these objects might be.
